Our Sensory Garden project is a collaboration between Little Miracles Cambridge, Ely & Newmarket and Cambridgeshire County Council.
After a year in the making and the consideration of many factors, it develops an area approximately 180ft x 80ft behind the offices of Little Miracles CEN at Ely Community Centre. An environment that will literally be to the benefit of thousands of people, supporting children, disabilities and different generations.
The solution is very much focused on offering many different sensory experiences that the different children, families and people the centre supports can benefit from through all seasons.
The senses has very much been the primary consideration in our thoughts. Our collaborated plans centre around the provision of lots of colour, the introduction of different ranges of smells, musical considerations for sound and of course a multitude of different textures to experience. We are catering for many different sensory needs and types of disabilities within the design. The garden, it’s access and pathways are all wheelchair friendly.
The project is very much community focused from concept through to design and delivery. We also expect it’s development to take on different stages over time as it settles and evolves to bring in new areas. A project that offers continual engagement.
The Phase 1 delivery of the Sensory Garden is presently scheduled to be delivered ready for March 2018, subject to groundworks.

Working with us…
A number of local companies and organisations have already committed to working with us on the project and have done so in many ways. The donations and the support that the project has received has come in the form of fundraising, monetary donations, provision of equipment and supplies, through to organisations staff members committing their time.
On behalf of everyone involved in the project, we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that has come together to support the project and help make a difference in the community.
